Beginning of the Fashion Shows at the Inter-Continental
Related to Haute Couture House
Despite having relocated his haute couture house to 5 avenue Marceau two years earlier, Yves Saint Laurent chose to present his collections at the Salon Impérial of the Hôtel Inter-Continental on the Rue de Castiglione in 1976. It was a remarkable feat during a period when haute couture seemed to be overtaken by ready-to-wear.
The first collection he presented there, the “Opéras - Ballets russes” Autumn-Winter 1976 collection, was a spectacular show that reintroduced opulence into fashion. Music was used for the first time, fashion shows having previously unfolded in silence.
