Thirty-two years after Christian Bérard, it was Yves Saint Laurent’s turn to “dress” Jean Cocteau’s romantic drama L'Aigle à deux têtes (The Eagle with Two Heads) when it was reprised at the Théâtre de l'Athénée-Louis-Jouvet.

He has been able to fully express his penchant for Orientalism. ... The other actors, especially Stanislas the anarchist, are resolutely modern in their interwar-period ‘executive’ costumes. For his first set design for the theater, Yves Saint Laurent has utilized both the most baroque art—for the queen’s chamber—and the most stylized lines for the library in act two.
