The Dior Years
Related to Fashion
As head of the house of Dior, Yves Saint Laurent imbued haute couture with a youthful air. He simplified clothing and ignored the dictates of fashion. In his view, style had to continue from collection to collection. Saint Laurent also sought inspiration in the clothing people were wearing in the street, which would also bring him his first setback. His 1960 collection was influenced by the beatnik movement and made use of leather and dark colors. Saint Laurent was the first to propose a leather jacket as a haute couture piece. This time, however, both the press and Dior’s customers were not convinced.
