Alain Resnais’s psychological film about power evoked the financial scandals of the Third Republic through the murder of a crook who issued fake treasury bonds. The film gave Annie Duperey a role of her caliber. The dresses she wore were designed by Yves Saint Laurent.
The film was presented at the Festival de Cannes in 1974.
