A propos de l’exposition
The exhibition YVES SAINT LAURENT AUX MUSÉES, which ran from January through May, 2022 at six leading Parisian cultural institutions, will be extended through September 18, 2022 at the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris and at the Musée du Louvre.
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the House of Yves Saint Laurent’s first couture show, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris took an innovative approach to showing the couturier’s work. An immersive experience, using the couturier’s retrospective runway show of 2002 as its starting point, provides insight into Yves Saint Laurent’s creative process. Shown at the former couture house at 5, Avenue Marceau in Paris, the exhibition opens a door onto the museum’s rich collection: Visitors can see dozens of canvas prototypes and patterns, as well as more than three hundred sketches that highlight the influence of the visual arts on the work of Yves Saint Laurent.
At the Musée du Louvre, parallels are drawn between various iconic pieces associated with the couturier―namely his fetish heart-shaped pendant and his sumptuously embroidered jackets that reflect the expertise of the ateliers he worked with―and the gilded opulence of the museum’s Galerie d’Apollon. The viewer senses the deep bond and continuity that link Yves Saint Laurent with the visual arts, and his love of magnificent and opulent interiors.
Sponsored by the Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent, the exhibition YVES SAINT LAURENT AUX MUSÉES pursues a dialogue between the worlds of fashion and the visual arts, while paying homage to the legendary couturier and his fashion house.
« This is my home, it is a great joy to receive all the love that she has for me. I'm talking about the seamstresses, the heads of ateliers, the whole house is a house based on love. " – Yves Saint Laurent »
